In 1986, our late Past President Rudy Russo established the annual fellowship award, to be given to a selfless Rotarian who had worked to better the lives of Cambridge citizens. In more recent years, the judges have also taken into account the individual's contribution to the fellowship and spirit of the club itself.
The most recent awardee is Sal Sagarese, who received the award at our annual dinner in June 2013.
A member of Cambrdige Rotary since 2003, Sal has contributed to many club activities and projects and been a member of our Board of Directors. His outgoing personality enlivens our event and meetings.
His ability to sell People's Choice Award tokens at our annual Chalk on the Walk fundraiser turned this idea into a real money-maker. He's taken on the weekly introduction of visiting Rotarians and guests and the collection of Happy Dollars with an enthusiasm that enlivens our meetings and raises a lot of money for The Rotary Foundation.
As has become traditional, our own Blues Brothers (Tom Lynn and Bob Mansfield), entered the dinner to their signature music and tapped Sal from the audience to announce the award.
