"Today my job is to introduce our honoree without telling you who it is. In this case it is going to be difficult because this year’s recipient of the Rudy has a very distinctive personality marked by a passionate, long term commitment to everything they undertake.
Our awardee has been a member of Cambridge Rotary for almost 20 years and during that time has been involved in many of the bed rock efforts of the Club – Vocational Service, Chalk on the Walk, Sergeant at Arms, and the Literacy Project. In each case their participation is enthusiastic and creative and always done with a very particular flair for fashion.
On a weekly basis anyone who is fortunate to be sitting at the same table can be assured of a lively and well informed discussion of anything from politics to food. You will often hear this person sticking up for the “little people”. They hate bullies.
In their professional life they have shown the same passionate dedication to a goal having been with the same organization for almost 30 years and in the process touching and transforming the lives of hundreds of young people who might have otherwise fallen by the wayside. This dedication to their cause goes beyond their daily work life to include “chilling” fund raising activities on weekends.
During the past year or so this person has assumed a most crucial task with a never ending supply of topical and appropriate offerings that has added great variety and spice to our meetings. If I say any more you will certainly know who I am talking about so can I have the envelope please."
The sealed envelope was brought forward by the Blues Brothers. Brenda opened the envelope and announced that the 2008 winner of "The Rudy" - The Cambridge Rotary Club Fellowship Award is .... LINDA CORWIN
