The Rotary Club of Cambridge was founded in 1922 and like all Rotary Clubs throughout the world encourages and fosters the ideal of service above self. Its goal is to build a better world, emphasizing service activities by individuals and groups that enhance the quality of life and human dignity, encouraging high ethical standards and creating peace in the world. A great many local non-profits have benefited from the Cambridge Rotary's Charities over the last 79 years. Here is a sample of the organizations that have received funds in the last five years.
Major Beneficiaries
- Our Place at the Salvation Army - Annual Holiday Party for homeless children, with gifts for all and a visit from Santa Claus
- Cambridge Rindge & Latin National Honor Society - $4,000 in scholarships annually at award luncheon for members of the Society.
- Cambridge Rindge & Latin Achievement Scholarship - $2,000 annually
- Cambridge Schools Mini-Grant Program – grants of $250 - $750 for teachers in the Cambridge Public School with small projects, $4,000 total per year.
- Rotary Youth Leadership Academy - leadership training for promising youth
- Rotary Technology Learning Center (at the Central Square branch library). A $125,000 project to provide free access to computers & the internet, the Rotary Club's 75th anniversary gift to the City of Cambridge
- CASPAR Cambridge and Somerville Program for Alcoholishm and Drug Abuse Rehabilition
- Bread & James – homeless advocacy program
- HomeStart – assistance to move homeless people to permanent housing
- Youth on Fire help for homeless youth
